The preparatory workshop, Which was organized by World Forum of Fisher Peoples (WFFP), The Sustainable Development Foundation (SDF), Southern Fisherfolk Federation (SFF), The International NGO/CSO Planning Committee (IPC) and the International Collective in Support of Fishworkers (ICSF).
The obove organizations organized this Work shop with thse objectives.
- Discuss and arrive at acceptable positions on how to engage with the three main conference themes, namely securing sustainable resource use and access rights, securing post-harvest rights and securing human rights including social, economic and cultural rights;
- Decide on strategy for engaging with the conference, to ensure that fishworker/fishing community issues and perspectives are recognized in all deliberations and in the conference report;
- Provide a forum to discuss women in fisheries-related issues; and
Generate wider support for campaigns against the abuse of rights of small-scale fishworkers and coastal communities
10 representatives participated at this programme from Sri Lanka representingthe WFFP and NAFSO Sri Lanka.
