Indonesian fisheries Department officers visited NAFSO..
A meeting took place between Indonesian Fisheries Department officers and National Secretariat Member of National Fisheries Solidarity Movement (NAFSO) at Negombo National Secretariat premises of NAFSO today. Eight officials from Ministry of Indonesian Fisheries Department, Two officials from Central Government Fisheries Department and two community representatives also were presenting from Indonesian community development organizations for the program.
They had been guided The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) Sri Lankan office to meet NAFSO to share experience each other.
This was a very good opportunity for them to gain more experience from NAFSO as its working with small scale fishing communities in ten districts with more experience in this filed for more than 10 years. Especially destructive fishing practices, bottom trawling, Environmental Issues, and women & gender issues, Policy and lobbying activities are the main theme they touched meanwhile the discussion they had with NAFSO officials.
The officials with community leaders from Nias Island in Indonesia had come to Sri Lanka for an exposure visit to get an optimum benefit from the visit. Looking up Sri lankan harbours, Boat building centers in which new technologies are used and meeting fishers and some more government and none government officials according to the National Training Consultant Mr. Hathurusinghe attended to the meeting.
Herman Kumara, The national Convener of NAFSO, Admin Secretary, Geetha Lakmini, Advocacy Policy & Lobbying Coordinator Nalaka Rosairo were playing major role in the discussion.
According to the Indonesian fisheries representatives, talking with NAFSO officers is a great experience for them during this visit they ever gained.
