India - The government has imposed a ban on fishing by mechanized and motor boats between 15 April and 31 May, 2013 (47 days) for the conservation of fish resources. Mechanized fishing vessels and motor boats found violating the ban will be fined Rs.2,500 and the catch will be seized, according to the Joint Director of Fisheries P. Koteswara Rao, reports The Hindu. Fishermen using traditional fishing boats without an attached motor do not come under the purview of the ban.
