NAFSO visited to Monaragala in Uva provice and Panama in eastern province to meet communities who are in struggle for take their lands ownership back from the government. Monaragala lands were taken in 80's for sugercane farming and panama lands in 2010 for tourism purpose.
The present government came to power promising on resolving various land issues created by previous government(s). sellingout or leasingout of lands is continuing even with the good government who promised to solve the issues.
NAFSO havebeen working with both communities for several years now to get their land rights back. Members from local civil organizations, and affected people were participated in the programs. Lobby activites conducted recently were reviewed and way forward was discussed.
