International Fact-Finding Mission about Port City Project

From 27^th to 30^th November 2018, a group of people from different countries came to Sri Lanka to participate in an International Fact-Finding Mission (IFFM) organized by NAFSO.

This IFFM consisted in collect as much information as possible about the problems that Port City Project is causing for the environment, the social and the economic of Sri Lanka. The participants met different fishermen communities, professors, lowers, experts and people in general who thinks that Port City Project is bad for the country. The information collected will be used to produce a report that will be published on December 10^th, the day of humans right.

ABOUT NAFSO

NAFSO (National Fisheries Solidarity Movement), organizes fishermen to lobby the government to defend their rights and to bring about good environmental practice in coastal areas. ...NAFSO has helped a fishing community to take legal action against a proposal to build a five-star hotel on a mangrove where fish spawn."We are not against hotels, because they bring tourism and income. But 3,000 families and 15,000 fishermen use this lagoon and all of them could be affected by the developments. Only 200 would be employed by the hotel.
