Five Sri Lankan fishermen were arrested by Pakistani security forces. They had set sail from the Mirissa fisheries harbour on the 26th of April. Assistant Director of the Fisheries Department Padmapriya Tissera said that they
were arrested for breaching the maritime boundary and fishing in Pakistani waters. Recent past, the Sri Lankan fishermen crossing International Maritime Boundary Lineswere reduced and this is something important matter consider at this period. Sri Lankan fishermen were mostly arrested while crossing the Indian IMBL though those 5 fishermen were arrested at Pakistan. It is difficult matter that Sri Lankan fishermen why traveled so much towards the Pakistan in the Arabian Sea while they know the repercussion of the crossing maritime boundaries. NAFSO would discuss the matter with the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum, [PFF] how we can assist those fishermen when they need any help. |
