YMESOC
the youth movement of NAFSO conducted a leadership training program for the
members on Disaster Risk Reduction & Mitigation (DRRM) at Subodhi,
Piliyandala.
The main aim was to develop a district disaster management &
mitigation plan for each district by the youth leaders. The three-day program
was ended with planning how to mobilize the community support, engagement of
government officials from Grama Niladari and above and also to facilitate the
involvement of CSO on the area. The Assistant Director, (Training) of the ministry of
disaster management said at his input that, “there is one million rupees
available at the disaster management centers at district level to mediate
immediately for relief assistance at initial stage. But the importance is to
tap this resource, you need to approach through relevant government officials
to channel them to the community.”
When I inquired about the training, Laksiri Fernando, the YMESOC Coordinator said, “The Training Program is success more than expected. Because, youth had enthusiastically engaged the training activities and grasp important steps to plan a disaster management program at community level.”
The good news is that, if we have planned and engaged with relevant officials, we can find some resources too to implement the plan.” Added Pradeep Laksiri with enthusiastic language.
