Parallel Post card campaign was also launched islandwide in connection with poster campaign on 15th July. SFO- Matara Team has mobilized Hanwella women’s group to post post card demanding sustainable Fisher people’s Policy, land rights and stop Port City.

L.Y. Wasantha, Coordinator of SFO, Matara animated the group and said “We have been struggling for a sustainable fisheries policy in Sri Lanka since 2002. Finally, in 2018, we got a Fisheries Policy which forgot Small Scale Fishers which are the majority in the country. We continue our struggle until we get a sustainable fisheries policy in the country. Our attempt is to voice out our demands loudly through poster and post card campaigns.”
We never get anything without raising our voice. So, our struggle continue....

NAFSO (National Fisheries Solidarity Movement), organizes fishermen to lobby the government to defend their rights and to bring about good environmental practice in coastal areas. ...NAFSO has helped a fishing community to take legal action against a proposal to build a five-star hotel on a mangrove where fish spawn."We are not against hotels, because they bring tourism and income. But 3,000 families and 15,000 fishermen use this lagoon and all of them could be affected by the developments. Only 200 would be employed by the hotel.
