“Land rights of the People; Round table discussion with HR Commission & Experience Sharing “
This was held at Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research Centre,
Colombo 07 , on 16th Friday August 2019.There were 30 land rights activists
from 8 Districts and all got a chance to share briefly the current situation of
each location enlightening . The main focus was on Panama Issue with the
pending Cabinet decision issued in 2015 to give back the land to the people. Mrs. Ramani
Muthuhewagama , Human Right Commissioner was the chief hearer of the petitions and
at the end of the presentations Mrs. Ramani informed of a special unit set up
within HR commission to follow up the
pending implementation of already issued HR recommendations. She stated provided
you submit the updated information to this unit with in one month they
would act on it and come up with immediate steps to implement those
recommendations. Mrs.Iyanthi Shiromani is the head of this special unit and she
also encouraged the participants to take these issues through the local, district
HR Commissions.
