A
regional workshop was organized by FAO in relation to fisheries tenure and user
rights, 2019 for the Southeast Asia and Bay of Bengol ( SEABOB) from 3 to 5 in Bangkok,
Thailand. The purpose of the workshop
was to gather information on how to design appropriate tuner and user rights in
the region, noting regional needs and nuances and to accelerate the uptake and
application of the Voluntary Guidelines on Responsible Governance of Tenure of
Land, Fisheries and Forest in the context of National food security ( VGGT) and
Voluntary Guidelines of for Securing small Sustainable Small Scale Fisheries in
the context of food security and poverty eradication (SSF) . The workshop
consisted of four sessions dealing with various aspects of fisheries tuner and
user rights that are emphasized in the VGGT and VGSSF.
The
representatives from Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laopdr, Malaysia,
Maldives, Myanmar, Philippines, Timor-Leste, Vietnam and Sri Lanka participated in the workshop. Mr.
KwangSuk Oh, Senior Fishery Officer, Mr. Jaeyoung shin, Fishery Officer, Mr.
Jiaxi Wang, Fishery Resource Officer, Mr. Juan Lechuga Sanchez, Fisheries
Management Consultant and Ms. Yumi Son, Fisheries Consultant participated
representing Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation (FAO). Mr. Pradeep Wanigasuriya
represented National Fisheries Solidarity Movement in the workshop.
