.: District Youth Committee in Jaffna

The District Youth Committee in relation to Jaffna District Fisheries Solidarity was held at the organizational office on 3^rd of June 2020. Health situation of the community was one of the main concerns of the youth committee meeting. The committee has decided to hand over a petition regarding to the health issues of the community to the Medical Officer of Health. 30 male and female youth members and office staff such as Mr.Imbanayagam, District Coordinator, Miss. Thadsa, Miss. Chithra also participated in the meeting.

ABOUT NAFSO

NAFSO (National Fisheries Solidarity Movement), organizes fishermen to lobby the government to defend their rights and to bring about good environmental practice in coastal areas. ...NAFSO has helped a fishing community to take legal action against a proposal to build a five-star hotel on a mangrove where fish spawn."We are not against hotels, because they bring tourism and income. But 3,000 families and 15,000 fishermen use this lagoon and all of them could be affected by the developments. Only 200 would be employed by the hotel.
